How I’ve Used ICT

1. Black Lives Matter

In early January of 2020, back when African-Americans were being oppressed by the police, a trend started. After George Floyd was murdered by a police officer, many American citizens started filing complaints and started protests to get the police officer and his accomplices to prison. No executive decision was made immediately and after a while, the protests were getting out of hand and black people were arrested and murdered for no reason. Support, not only from America but the entire world was being received. And those who cannot possibly attend any protests due to being citizens of another country simply used social media to advocate for Black Lives Matter. I was one of these people. Although having a small following, tweets about the situation were blowing up. Complaints about the American-Government and their justice system were skyrocketing. Not a single day within this couple of months went without the situation trending. I used this opportunity to start promoting the #BLM and advised my following to speak out about what’s happening. My tweets started, for lack of a better word, booming and I’ve gained a huge increase in followers. I realized that I could actually contribute to the situation and all my tweets would not be in vain. Although I’ve deleted the account due to personal reasons, I hoped that I was able to help at least one black life during those brutal months in America.

I’ve been distancing myself from most social media platforms and the internet in general, and the ones I actually use I try not to interact with others too much. So as far as joining a movement or trying to make a change, the black lives matter movement was the only one I participated with.
